A Hot Tub May Be Your Sleep Solution

A Hot Tub May Be Your Sleep Solution

by Mark Zalewski

Have you ever thought about the good that can come from a good soak in a hot tub right before you’re ready to go to bed? That simple activity of just soaking  in a hot tub can result in a deep, good night’s sleep. A night’s sleep that is so restful you wake up in the morning feeling rejuvenated and refreshed.

According to the National Sleep Foundation, 30-40% of adults report some type of insomnia. They advised that “Soaking in hot water (such as a hot tub or bath) before retiring to bed can ease the transition into deeper sleep, but it should be done early enough that you are no longer sweating or overheated.” They also suggest in their tips for restful sleep that you practice a peaceful bedtime ritual that includes soaking in a hot tub.

Someone experiencing pain of some kind, will also have to deal with anxiety that will likely interfere with their sleep. This can make a person feel tired still when they wake up. Soaking in a hot tub for half an hour before bed time alleviates both the pain and anxiety. Once the anxiety is gone your chance for a good night’s sleep increases. Sleep is a basic necessity for anyone trying to recover from an injury. For more information on how the medical community supports the usage of hot tubs for healing, see our previous article.

From a medical viewpoint, people believe that mental health and physical health are intertwined and that having good mental health is directly affected by good physical health.

This concept where all aspects of our lives affect the other aspects is very similar to, “Which came first, the chicken or the egg?” Like that age-old riddle the most important thing to understand is that each affects the other. So which is more important to focus on? The answer lies in understanding how all aspects of our lives influence the other parts and that makes us a step ahead of the game. That’s the ideal place to be when it comes to our overall health and well being.

Getting good sleep is a main part of living a healthy lifestyle. A way to get a good night’s sleep is by soaking in a hot tub for 30 minutes before bed. Your body is able to heal and rejuvenate which brings about a healthy state of mind. A healthy state of mind keeps your physical body functioning well and able to sleep peacefully which keeps the whole cycle going.

So don’t worry if it was the chicken or the egg that came first. What matters is that all of the cycle affects the rest of the cycle, and if that means that a pre-bedtime soak will enable your body to rest like it should, then so be it.
